Web 2.0 development

Web-based solutions for interactive and shared exchange between users

The term "Web 2.0" represents a number of web-based solutions focusing on interactive and shared elements as well as the exchange between users. 2.0 is used in analogy to version numbers and hence as a means of distinction from older and established websites and Internet portals. The term comes from a quote in the US edition of "Fast Forward" magazine from 2003. In this context, Web 2.0 development means the development of concepts and the implementation of solutions in this area whose functionality and goals are clearly geared towards interaction between users.

Preferred Web 2.0 development tools and techniques include AJAX and JavaScript, as well as the use of popular web services or web technologies, such as the API of Google Maps. Mobile applications are also becoming increasingly important in developments for Web 2.0. The term "Web 2.0" is increasingly changing to the new term "social media".
